Udders on our red girls, a cross-section of the rest of our herd.
We have always maintained a strong focus on structural correctness and in particular our udder structure.  We have been able to produce a line of big bodied females with great volume and width.  They all have strong udders with excellent fore udder attachments that will stand the test of time and many calvings.  In the past few years we have focussed our attention  on introducing polling into our herd and have been very successful in achieving our goals in this respect.

We have recently exported several Dexter females to Victoria to studs interested in our polled red genetics.  It gives us a great sense of achievement to know that our lines are valued by others.

Take a minute to look at our cows and heifers who are all registered with Dexter Cattle Australia (DCAI), are MN3 on the Johnes program and non carriers of PHA.  Giving us a diverse and strong genetic base on which to improve our bloodlines.

Grade 3 females

A Grading up program was allowable in the early years of the Dexter breed revival in Australia and so long as a registered purebred bull was the sire, any resultant female progeny could be registered.  A bull can only be registered if it has a purebred dam.  The herdbook is now closed to Grade 1 registrations as of 31st March 2006.  The relevant grades are shown below.

Grade 1 - 50% Dexter,50% base breed
Grade 2 - 75 % Dexter, 25% base breed
Grade 3 - 87.5% Dexter, 12.5% base breed
Purebred - considered pure

Our Heifers

This is our line up of young heifers who we have very high hopes for with five of the seven being polled.  They have just been joined for the first time with our polled bulls and we eagerly await the arrival of their first calves in August / September 2012.

Unmated Heifers

These are the heifers being retained for breeding to calve in 2013.
