After looking through our herd we ascertained that we could have 19 animals that are homozygous polled, but rather than rush in and test them all we opted to send a test batch to validate the results. This meant we included hair samples from animals we knew to be heterozygous polled and horned to ensure we did not get false results. It is pleasing to report the results came back as expected giving us renewed faith in the testing process within our herds.
The results for the animals tested as homozygous polled are
Rawlings Blueprint - Homozygous
Rawlings Hepburn's Pride - Homozygous
Kirup Park Angelica - Homozygous
Several of the youngsters have come back as heterozygous polled
Rawlings Heavenly Treasure
Rawlings Holly O'Shea
Our test samples were Rawlings Delta Blue who could only be heterozygous and Rawlings Belladonna who is confirmed as horned, results correctly reflected their status.
We will know get the next batch of hair to test some of the other potentially homozygous polled cattle.
Rawlings Blueprint was also test for A2 milk and his test showed that he is heterozygous A2 which means he has A2 / A1 markers and 50% of his porgeny will inherit the A2 gene.
