Meanwhile it means that I am having to do all of the farm work, feeding cows, fixing bale feeders, loading hay bales and moving cows. I do not seem to have five minutes to myself.
The cows are due to start calving at the end of next month and that will continue for a few months, with the arrival of our first calves sired by the imported American bulls, it will be a very exciting time.
We have also launched our new business venture, selling of Dexter beef at the Burnie Farmers Markets and we were amazed with the positive response. Hopefully we will create a local market for Dexter steers and be able to supply quality beef at affordable prices to the general public. I am hoping that we may attract some Dexter breeders on a purely commerical scale as we can provide a ready market for their produce. Our market stall looked amazing thanks to Julie who had a vision of what it had to look like. We have purchased a second display fridge to allow customers to choose their own packs of meat. So two more weeks until our next outing.
My eldest son has also just got engaged, which means a trip back to WA. Mark is coming with me to the engagement party but only for four days and then I will stay on until after the Perth Royal Show where Dexters are feature breed. It is my excuse for some Nanna time with our gorgeous Sophie as well.
Will be updating more regularly once the cows start calving.
