Late on Friday afternoon and in a freezing southerly breeze, Grace decided it was time to calve. We had been to Launceston to pick up something and she did not look that close when we left, so we were quite surprised to see a bundle next to her when we got home. The calf was cold, so we towelled it dry and moved it to the other side of our trees to a more sheltered spot. She was AI'd to Bircham Ballantyne and I was so hoping for a bull, but no we got a polled black heifer instead. I must say all of the calves by this bull have been impressive from day one and this one is no exception, and they have all been heifers. I am thinking she will be named Kara-melle or Karamello, not sure yet. Pictures when it stops raining, who knows when that might be as it is forecast wet all week.
I am looking forward to using this Blog to keep everyone up to date with the happenings at our farm.
