And back on the Farm

Well to say we are busy at the moment is an understatement, we have taken over our new block on Jacks Road and have done to fencing maintenance to allow the new cattle to be brought home.  We have purchased 14 red angus females from Rex Frankcombe that are PTIC to Rawlings Blueprint, his last job before going to Victoria.  The girls are the beautiful big bodied girls that we have so admired at Rex's and we are thrilled to have added a new dimension to our farming enterprise.  It is hoped these girls will be recips for an ET program in the next year, stay posted for details.

The cattle down at the agistment block in Gunns Plains will be moving up to Jacks Road as well once our lease runs out in December.  We have hay to cut on 14 acres down there which will be done before the end of the year.  Speaking of the cattle at Gunns Plains Mark got quite a shock the other weekend when he went down to feed some hay. "We had a bloody sheep in our paddock" he explained but on closer insepction it was discovered that one of the Dexter / Red Angus X girls from Rex's had produced a Charolais coloured calf.  The calf is a not so little bull, about 40kgs, he is a beauty and the heifer was obviously served just before we got the cattle in Febraury.  Rex's comments were "well I'll be blowed".  Thanks Rex we now have a potential commercial bull or a damn fine steer for the carcase competitons next year, so glad there were no complications calving.

The house at Jacks Road has undergone a total renovation, new kitchen, bathroom, floorcoverings, painting and tidy up.  We have some new tenants that are itching to move in before Christmas so we have worked everyday on the house to get it finished.

Add to the mix the showing, Farmers Markets and cutting hay and silage and I now know why I am so exhausted.  Can someone stop the world so I can have a days rest!!
