They had decided that the Launceston Royal in 2012 was to be their last show and I was so thrilled for them that they had such a good showing. Taking out Champion Junior Female with KP Goodwill & Reserve Junior Chapmion Female being awarded to KP Hannah Montana, along with Reserve Senior Female with Sue's favourite cow KP Classic Crystal. They then went on to win the Senior Champion Bull with KP Esquire, who was then sashed Supreme Exhibit of the Breed and was 3rd in the Senior Bull Interbreed. To finish on such a high was a buzz for us all.
Mark & I intend to continue the Kirup Park Stud into the future as an honour to the great genetics that Sue & David have entrusted into our care. The combination of their stud and ours has given us what I am certain is the most diverse range of polled Dexter genetics anywhere in Australia, a dream for both the Hannaford's and us.
I was also pleased that while David and Sue stayed with us a number of their cows calved so they got to enjoy the thrill of their last calving.
We value their friendship greatly and am sure that they will still give us valuable advice on stud direction and genetics if we ask them too. Good luck to them in their plans to travel and enjoy their retirement. I hope they still manage to visit Tasmania often.
